A saved place is a point on the map plus a radius. A rule decides what gets sent when a hazard touches it, and by which channel.
Adding a place
- Open the app or the live map and sign in.
- Search for an address, a city or a ZIP, or drop a pin.
- Set the radius. A mile or two is right for a house; a county-wide radius will wake you up for storms you cannot see.
- Name it something you will recognise in a notification title.
What a rule can watch
Rules match on the alert itself, not on the weather:
- Event type: Tornado Warning, Flash Flood Warning, and so on.
- Significance: warnings only, or watches and advisories too. This is the axis the NWS asks people to read, and it is the one the map colours by.
- Lightning proximity: flashes within a distance of the place, which is independent of whether any alert is in effect.

Quiet hours
Quiet hours suppress everything except the event types you mark as life-safety. The default keeps Tornado Warnings and Flash Flood Emergencies loud at any hour and holds the rest until morning.
