Verify a spotter credential

Every WxAlerts spotter certificate carries a credential number. Enter it here and this page will tell you whose it is, when it was earned and whether it is still in date. You do not need an account.

A holder has passed a 40-item examination at 80% or better, covering storm structure, rotation cues, hail and wind estimation, flash flooding, reporting criteria, safety and positioning, radar interpretation, communications and ethics. It runs for one year from the date it was earned. How the certification works.

WxAlerts training is independently developed and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by NOAA or the National Weather Service. Course content is aligned to NWS severe weather reporting criteria and built on public-domain federal source material. Certification is an internal WxAlerts competence requirement for report submission. It is not accredited, carries no academic credit, and does not confer NWS- or SKYWARN-trained status, which only a National Weather Service forecast office can grant.
